Applications for Expanding Horizons InternshipsExpanding Horizons Internships DescriptionThe program provides paid work experience and educational seminars for Juniors. The deadline to turn in the application for CRF’s 2013 Expanding Horizons Internships is February 1, 2013. Group A: Seminars from March – June * Job placement and seminars: June 13 – July 12 Group B: Seminars from March – June * Job placement and seminars: July 11 – August 9 * Click here to see calendar for dates Alternate Position:An EHI alternate is a sophomore student given an exclusive opportunity to participate in all of EHI’s educational seminars and be eligible to get a paid summer internship. As an EHI alternate you will be eligible for a paid summer internship, if one becomes available. Normally, EHI internships are only offered to students in their junior year. As an alternate a paid summer internship is not guaranteed. If the student is not selected for a paid summer internship, they will have the unique opportunity to apply to EHI the following year and bypass the 1st phase of the application process, automatically moving on to the 2nd phase. In addition, the student will be privileged to select their top three job sites to be interviewed at. Work ExperienceThe Expanding Horizons Internships' job site work experience provides interns with an opportunity to work in the arts, business or finance, education, government, health, human services, law or public relations (click here for a list of our job sites). Students will begin work at the job site in the summer starting late June or early July. Interns will work Monday – Thursday for 7 hours a day and Friday for 5 hours. They will be earning $8.00/hour for all work hours. Students will work in a professional office in the field of arts, business/finance, education, government, health, human services, law or media/entertainment. Most of the job sites are located in Downtown L.A., Pasadena, Mid City, and Century City. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation. If necessary, CRF staff will help the student become familiarized with the public transportation system. SeminarsStudents will attend seminars on active citizenship, college preparation, leadership, life skills and learn how to function in the workplace during the Spring. These seminars are held bi-weekly in the late afternoon and some on Saturdays starting the week of Spring Break in March and continue until June (see calendar for dates). Students will explore the city of Los Angeles, learn presentation skills, teamwork, communication skills, professionalism and receive college preparation. All seminars are interactive, educational and fun! Students will receive a $5 transportation stipend for each seminar they attend. Throughout the job placement phase, interns will also attend seminars every Friday and one on Saturdays and participate in the culmination event.
