Why Should Your Child Participate?
- History Day makes learning fun. Students choose a topic they want to learn more about.
- Students develop historical research, critical thinking, and communication skills that will help them throughout life.
- Gives students a creative outlet for their work, allowing them to use their artistic, dramatic, literary, and musical abilities.
- A History Day project can be self-validating and exciting because it builds self-esteem, poise and confidence.
A Parents's Role in the History Day Program
Parents play an important role in their child's successful History Day experience. The most important role is to give your child encouragement and support. Things you can do to help your child in the process of researching and developing their History Day entries:
- Make sure your child is researching a topic they are interested and/or excited about.
- Help your child use and strengthen the skills she/he has learned and developed.
- Get involved in your child's learning process and share the experience.
- Provide transportation for research trips to libraries, museums, universities, etc., that can help your child find project information.
